From what I can remember, none of the major characters in the original series or its 3 main sequels/spinoffs were currently married. One main character was widowed (Dr. Crusher) and I recall another few episodes where marriages were supposed to be performed but were not for various reasons. Some of the kids on the ship had two parents who were seen for one episode.

Deegee-thanks for the correction. Wikipedia may be incorrect--I think that is where I read Broderick info. Re ST: I am not a fan--were the characters married? Seinfeld and other characters that are single are more likely to be childfree I think. I am not a big fan of SITC but read Hymas' piece and got curious. I do like to follow Cattrall as she has an interesting theater career too....~L

My two favorite TV shows in which most or all of the main characters were childfree: Star Trek and Seinfeld.

The original Star Trek had no children on the starship and rarely had children in its episodes. The sequels and spinoffs had few children, either. Only the Wesley Crusher character in "ST: The Next Generation" was young although he became an adult crew member in the series' later years.

Seinfeld had no children among its regular characters. Furthermore, children were often portrayed quite negatively, often poked fun of or as general nuisances to the main characters in several episodes.

I am at best an occasional viewer of SITC and have no plans to see the movies. In some ways I found the show revolting. I agree with you that I wish more celebrities would celebrate their being childfree.

Oh, Laura, Sarah Jessica Parker is married to actor Matthew Broderick, not his father James. James died nearly 30 years ago.
