It's interesting that so many people think that the bio urge" what we instinctually have, but research does not support it--likely more a matter of social conditioning in a pronatalist world. Many childfree would say the "urge" is to have sex, not to procreate ~L

What a great list. I wish I had this in my younger fertile years to combat all the comments I received from others about choosing to be childfree.

Many of my single friends were desperate to have children and did so in their late 30's/early 40's. They chose (what I thought) were the first semi-decent guy they could find, and got pregnant very quickly. Their intensity scared me. One girl quoted "every period is a lost child" and would cry every month. Another went so far as to compile a list of guys from an internet dating site during the week, and have unprotected sex with them on the weekends in the hope she would fall pregnant. Now many are having marital problems. I would say the "I can’t help it; it’s a biological urge", was what most were thinking.

I agree--at the very least it would help would-be parents examine their deeper motives for having children before they say yes to a lifestyle they may regret..but can't admit it! ~L
