Making Room For You: A Practical Guide to Organizing Your Home by Meghan Hill is a useful guide to readers who are looking for tips to organize their homes. Following the techniques shared in the book will help everyone clear the clutter and get organized as they address the emotions that arise and declutter, which means making decisions that we have been putting off for long, and implementing solutions for what we choose to keep. The first segment of the book is about the emotional and psychological aspects of getting organized and it shows readers how to set themselves up. The second part gives practical advice with how-to tips, guidance, and suggestions for shopping to furnish your home. Feel free to use the tips given by the author in taking the first step toward clearing clutter.

I found the book, the suggestions, and advice very helpful. At the outset, these will help readers understand how peace comes from an orderly environment and examine things which they are holding onto unnecessarily. The book also deals with all the fears that crop up while decluttering the emotional areas of the houses. I like the way the topic has been handled. The author touches on all the dimensions - spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical - and makes organizing the home an interesting chore. The topic has been dealt with methodically and extensively, with tips on getting rid of unused stuff, from room to room, which makes it easy for readers who are intending to change their disorganized lifestyles.

This book deserves the five star rating. I have beena hoarder of organizational books. I have read over twenty. Some are no help whatsoever making you wonder what the author was thinking. Others almost get you there, but not quite in the helpful category.

What you are looking for in case you dont know is your reasoning behind keeping things around. WE all have our reasons, but in this book the author debunks or makes clear to you why your reasons really arent reasons at all, and your thinking is jacking up your happiess and peace.
If you like this book and what some exhaustive detail about the mental aspect of your holding on to stuff this is a good one for that.

I guarantee making room for you will help you, and make your life better. The authors suggestions and ideas are simply perfect whether you are female or male. Clutter knows no gender.

The book is aprox 90 pages so it wont be a huge time suck. You will see yourself described on the pages, and say to your self, yeah thats me and this is where I start. I will add after ready a ton of these books, and having had a huge amount of stuff that was not adding to the quality of my life, that dont try to do it all at once. Do baby steps. A little each day without fail. With the authors advice you will get to a better life. There were many things I had not heard before and all the ideas are good. Dont forget the last two pages. Nice touch.

Good book for anyone who is getting their feet wet into organizing their lives. Initially the book helps you through the purging process (those of you who have already read up on this area may find it a little slow), but still worth the read through; as with every book on the subject, the main idea is the same, each author may have a different process. I loved the way the author takes you throughout your home room by room, focusing on some of the most common areas (and most areas we avoid!) then presents fast and easy solutions to get those areas under control.

I have read a number of organizing books, so it's rare to find one that I would actually consider owning. Peter Walsh is my favorite and Meghan Hill's encouragement and advice meshed well with that approach of honoring what you keep, respecting the limits you have, etc. I just really found this book direct and encouraging, like this quote: "Anything sitting around unused in boxes is not serving you no matter how hard you try to convince yourself you 'can't' let it go." Not a new thought for me, but a direct reminder and it makes me chuckle.

For just a couple dollars, it's totally worth it and one that I enjoy returning to for practical inspiration.

Thank you Meghan for writing a book that is both simple and full of substance! I read it quickly and now am going back through to use the practical advice. I am already feeling a release by knowing it's OK to get rid of my stuff! Meghan gets down to why we hold on to things and the benefits of letting it go. It's a gentle kick in the butt to get started living the life you invision for yourself. Most importantly she stresses that this happen NOW. So do it.

The best part of this book, for me, was the after-effect. I'd gone through and done a big cleanse, but I didn't get to the heart of the problem - the items I'm holding on to for fear of 'needing' them again, or in 'hopes' I will fit into it some day. Since reading this book, I'm looking at everything differently now. As I go through my closet, I'm quite happy pulling out items I haven't worn in years. And I am loving the extra space! Meghan Hill is exactly right: you don't need it, you won't need it, you won't wear it....and you will feel better after you let it go.

Side note - I was at a garage sale the other day, and noticed another positive effect from this book: NOT bringing clutter back into the house. There was a ton of stuff I saw that fell into the category of "could be useful...and it's cheap so why not" but that is the problem! I don't want to clutter my life up again, so I purchased one thing I really needed and left the rest there.

I'm grateful for this quick, easy, effective read. Looking forward to more books from her.

This book was so much fun! In addition to the inspirational ideas and prods to let go of stuff that no longer serves, there are fun links to the exact storage and organizing solutions. It was like having a virtual, professional organizer.

This was a pleasant read (albeit short). It's been a while so I wont say much except that there were inexcusable errors throughout the book. Words that would've been noticed had something other than an auto spell check been used. Overall it was enjoyable though.
